Research on the topic of cycling mobility

Our projects

Better travel by bike, bus and train – the SELMA project

The devil is often in the details when planning a bike tour:

  • Arrival and departure to the region where the tour is to take place
  • the return transport of the bicycle to the starting point
  • the right rental bike at the holiday destination

Finding the truly useful information is often the biggest challenge in planning.

This is precisely where our research project comes in. SELMA to.

Why can't you find many offers for taking your bicycle on public transport on larger mobility platforms yet?

In the SELMA project, we are investigating this question.

  • What obstacles are currently preventing successful integration?
  • Are the difficulties technical, organizational, or related to the cooperation between different providers?

Together with mobility service providers, app operators and other experts, we are looking for practical solutions to make the digital mobility offering better and more user-friendly.

The aim is to make route planning and booking easier, more seamless and more attractive for cycling tourists and recreational cyclists.

What could the integration look like in practice? - wegfinder and cyclebee apps as test platforms

With the apps wayfinder And with our cyclebee app, we are testing what such offers can look like in concrete terms in an app and on a platform.

The most important aspects are:

  • user-friendliness
  • technical feasibility
  • and cost-effectiveness.

So that it will be easier for you and service providers in the future.

In addition, we are interviewing people from the SELMA project team who work in practice and experts from the mobility industry in order to obtain the most complete picture possible.

The findings gathered will be incorporated into a joint workshop with all key stakeholders.

There, we jointly develop scenarios and concrete recommendations on how the digital integration of regional mobility services can be made simpler, smoother and more beneficial for all involved in the future. Even in rural areas.

So that in the future you can quickly find all the offers you need for a relaxing bike tour directly from one app.

The SELMA consortium unites partners from research and practice.

The Practice partners They cover different mobility needs:

  • ibola operates an Austria-wide carsharing platform and participates in the practical integration into existing mobility apps.

  • wayfinder It functions as the central Austrian mobility platform, connecting public transport with sharing services and enabling direct booking, use and payment.

  • We at cyclebee represent leisure and tourism mobility by bicycle and, as a digital start-up, contribute important experience in linking local offers and the user perspective.

This diverse setup enables us as a project team to examine both technical and organizational challenges from different perspectives and to develop practical solutions for better mobility networking.

This project is financed by the Climate and Energy Fund and is being carried out within the framework of the program „Zero Emission Mobility – Digital Transformation in Mobility 2023“.

Research project "Cycling Tours4All""

Creation of the first prototype

The cyclebee app makes planning and experiencing cycling trips easier.

In the "Radreisen4All" project, we collaborated with the Know Center Graz developed the first prototype of our cycling travel app. This included, among other things... our unique network of cycle paths. This makes it easier for you to find tourist cycle routes, follow them and combine them with just a few clicks.

With your feedback, we will develop a smart all-in-one app that accompanies you from the initial idea to the end of your cycling trip.

Why are we developing cyclebee?

  • Planning overwhelms many people.  – although they would like to go on a cycling trip.
  • Many different tools: 88 % of the cycling tourists plan themselves – often with a lot of effort.
  • How does diversity affect the cycling holiday experience? – There is hardly any information about this.
  • Family and leisure travelers are therefore hardly taken into account, for example.

Test cyclebee in advance and have a direct influence on its development.

Soon you'll also be able to find cyclebee as an app in the store, Download and start cycling right away.

But first, the app needs regular use. Acceptance tests – by you!
